Use of residual frying oil in sheep feed

About the Project:  With the growth of sheep herds and the consequent intensification of production systems, the activity requires a greater demand for ingredients for the composition of concentrated diets, ingredients that provide good animal performance and that can add value to the final product with low production costs. The use of residual frying oil in sheep feed can become an interesting alternative to increase the energy concentration of diets, as well as to reduce costs, since it is often discarded into the environment by users, becoming a serious pollutant. In view of the above, this project aims to evaluate the inclusion of residual frying oil (OFR) in diets for meat sheep. Three experimental trials will be conducted. The first one aims to establish an ideal concentration of OFR in sheep diets by evaluating the apparent and total digestibility of dry matter and nutrients in the diets, dry matter and nutrient intake, blood parameters, ruminal parameters, nitrogen balance and ingestive behavior. In the second trial, the effect of OFR in different concentrated bulk ratios will be evaluated through the same evaluations as in the first trial. In the third trial, the pre-established concentration in the diets of the first trial and the concentrated bulk ratio established in the second trial will be used and compared to diets containing full soybean oil, diets containing palm oil and diets without the inclusion of these ingredients, with evaluation of sheep performance variables.
