II GERFAM Lecture Series
"Perspectives for ruminant production in the North of Brazil" was the theme of another GERFAM event On September 24 and 25, 2014, GERFAM held its 2nd Lecture Series. With the theme "Perspectives for ruminant production in the North of Brazil", the group presented specific discussions on increasing the efficiency of ruminant herds. The event was held in the auditorium of the Zootecnis Profissionalizante building and was attended by 93 people, including undergraduate and graduate students from various educational institutions in the state, producers and professionals working in the area. On the occasion, the series was led by undergraduate students who are members of the group.
The first lecture presented was given by Professor Carissa Michelle Goltara Bichara, who presented the theme " In vitro study of different Amazonian vegetables as modulators of the biohydrogenation of fatty acids and inhibitors of methanogenesis in ruminants". Then Prof. Fabricio Khoury Rebello presented the lecture "Agricultural financing in the Amazon: Credit as an inducer of more sustainable livestock farming". Both professors are part of the teaching staff at UFRA, Belém Campus.

On the second day there was a presentation of the lecture "Use of agroindustry by-products to enhance ruminant production in the North region" presented by Prof. André Guimarães Maciel e Silva, professor at UFPA in Castanhal. Then Prof. Felipe Nogueira Domingues, also from UFPA de Castanhal, presented the lecture entitled "Use of sugar cane as roughage for ruminants in the Amazon biome.
This II Cycle of Lectures was supported by the Institute of Animal Health and Production (ISPA), UFRA's Dean of Extension and the Goat and Sheep Research Center, ASCOM-UFRA.
