3rd GERFAM Lecture Series
"Beef Cattle Production Chain: from Farm Management to Product Quality" was highlighted in another event of the group
On May 14 and 15, 2018, GERFAM held its 3rd Lecture Series. With the theme entitled "Beef Cattle Production Chain: from farm management to product quality", the group brought up discussions around topics related to the livestock sector.
The event was attended by 101 registrants, including undergraduate and graduate students from various educational institutions in the state, producers and professionals who work in the area. The opening of the event was attended by the Magnificent Rector of UFRA, Prof. Marcel do Nascimento Botelho; the Pro-Rector of Extension of UFRA, Prof. Eduardo do Valle Lima; the Vice-Director of ISPA, Prof. Maria Cristina Manno and one of the Gerfam Coordinators, Prof. Aníbal Coutinho do Rêgo. The professors highlighted and reinforced the importance of this type of event for the integration between university and society, as well as encouraged that new actions like this be carried out at UFRA.
Continuing the work, the first day of the event featured the presentation of the lecture titled "Meat Production for Differentiated Market Niches," delivered by Prof. Otávio Rodrigues Machado Neto, from UNESP, Botucatu Campus. Following this, Mr. Daniel Acatauassu Freire, from the Mafripa group, gave the lecture "Premium Meat Market in Pará: From Producer to Consumer." The day concluded with a roundtable discussion chaired by Prof. Cristian Faturi, where the audience could interact with the speakers about the challenges faced by producers in producing high-quality meat.

​ The second day of the event began with the presentation of the lecture "Technical and managerial assistance from SENAR and opportunities for academia", given by veterinarian Dácio Campos de Carvalho from SENAR. Next, zootechnician Arilson Moraes Cardoso gave the lecture "Impact of management on strengthening rural businesses". At the end, the speakers participated in a round table, chaired by Professor Leandro Frederico Ferraz Meyer, where they discussed management and technical assistance on rural properties.
Throughout the two days of the event, prizes provided by employees and sponsors were raffled off. Finally, GERFAM, through one of its coordinators, Professor Thiago Carvalho da Silva, made the presentation and invited the public to participate in the "I Corn Field Day: from planting to harvest" which will be held on June 30 at the Igarapé-Açú School Farm (FEIGA).
In the realization of the III Lecture Series, GERFAM had the support of the Institute of Animal Health and Production (ISPA), the Office of the Vice-Rector for Extension of UFRA and ASCOM-UFRA, in addition to the sponsorship of the companies Mafripar, DSM-Tortuga, KWS, Grupo Gasparim and SENAR-Pará.
